Cheap and clean
This hotel is a mere 5 minute walk from Piazzale Roma where the buses terminate. The staff was very nice and friendly, letting us check in early. It was very affordable considering it's Venice. We had a triple including a breakfast buffet for 60 Euro. Another advantage to staying here is that from any point in the city, you just have to follow the Piazzale Roma signs to get back to the hotel.

Gorgeous and free
Entry is free in the main part of the cathedral, but they charge for some of the other exhibits and museum located within the church, including some amazing 4th century BC horse statues that the Venetians stole from Constantinople. Definitely worth a stop and wander.

Beautiful atmosphere
I loved strolling the winding cobblestone lanes around the old bridge. There are tons of street vendors and tiny shops, but no one is very aggressive. I found them all to be very friendly and nice. Not a lot of English spoken, but it's not really a problem. Lots of little cafes, too. Be sure to try Bosnian coffee in a little cafe and all of the food is amazing.

Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero, Mexico.
Very much off the beaten path
It was so far off of the beaten path that our cab driver didn't even know where it was. Through asking for directions, he eventually found it after climbing high above the city and far from all tourists. This site is exceptional. It's very well preserved with helpful guides, breathtaking views of the Acapulco bay and nary a tourist in sight. These petroglyphs date back to 200 BC and one even displays the Aztec creation myth.

Worth a stop
This old central square is lined with shops, restaurants and has a cathedral at its center. Lots of street vendors selling crafts, as well. Definitely frequented by locals and a good base for a leisurely stroll and rest.

Good for a stroll......
.....but not really worth paying the admission price. I mostly just enjoyed seeing the exterior architecture.

Unfortunately not free
It was a little over priced, but was still a cool experience. It's located about 30 minutes outside of Thunder Bay and has a gorge with two suspension bridges, touted as the longest ones in Canada at 300' and 600'. Campground there, as well.

Worth the trip
Just a quick jaunt from Thunder Bay, this waterfall is definitely worth the 20 minutes to drive to it.

Adequate
If you're looking for the cheapest possible and acceptable lodging in Thunder Bay, I think this hotel is it. It was clean enough and quite cheap. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Cheap and fresh
Loved the simplicity of this place. Fish was good and fresh. Ice cream was good, too.

Everyone wants an omelette the size of their face.
Possibly the best breakfast of my life. They offer their omelettes in the sizes of 6 or 12 eggs. I had the Makin' Bacon omelette containing cheese, tomato, sour cream and bacon. FANTASTIC. To top it all off- all you can eat hashbrowns! Love the atmosphere in there, too. The walls are covered in customer made drawings.

hostel with a bar!
What a bonus to stay in a hostel that has a bar on its main floor. A very affordable bar, at that. Good social scene. If you're looking to strike up conversations with other travelers, this is the place to do it. Broad age range, too. We opted for a private room which was very clean with a sink. Bathrooms were fantastic, too.

Not bad for its location
This motel is straight out of the 70s, but the staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean and cheap. We were informed that the area has a lot of hookers. First time I've ever been told that at a hotel. :) Tons of movies and TV shows have shot here and they have photos from the shoots on the walls of the lobby. We stayed in a room where they filmed an X-files episode. "Supernatural" has currently been filming there.

Tranquil escape from downtown
Nice park. 5.5 miles of walking along the sea wall. There are concerts, totem poles, food. Good family outing.

Food adventures galore!
Located out in a suburb near the airport, this market is a hidden gem. There are countless vibrant stalls selling "Prada" bags and "Dolce and Gabana" sunglasses, along with random sword booths, bizarre fruits and bamboo vendors. The highlight by far is the food section. There were countless bizarre Asian dishes to try. Curry fish balls, pig intestine kabobs, fried squid complete with tentacles, etc. A food adventure seeker's dream. One exceptionally weird thing was the Dragon Beard candy. It's kind of a combination between Shredded Wheat and cotton balls as you put it in your mouth. My favorite part of this place- no tourists. It was mostly just young local people.

Nice spot, but surprisingly tame
There was a fairly equal mix of clothed and naked people when I was there, so it's definitely okay to commune with the nudists while remaining clothed. I was there on an oddly warm Saturday afternoon in September and was sorry to see there were no vendors of any kind. The beach was fairly sparse, but was still dominated by naked old men. Be warned- there are at least 400 some stairs to get back up to street level.

Prime lunch destination
On a budget? Definitely go here to sample a wide array of cheap eats. Great and fresh fish and chips. FANTASTIC crepes. Mmmm, gelato.

Not bad, nor fantastic
I stopped into this pub with some friends while out walking in downtown Vancouver. The main draw was that it had sidewalk seating and no other pubs in the area did. The inside is quaint and British-y and the beer is moderately priced for its location. Good enough service. No complaints, it's just nothing exceptional.

Pleasantly surprised
So, I'm not a huge hot dog fan. Processed mystery meat parts don't really appeal to me, but Japadog is ridiculously fantastic! I tried the Terimayo and couldn't believe how good it was. Try it while in Vancouver. Very inventive.

Huge and ornate
It's impossible to miss this church when in Taxco, nor should you. It's free since it's a working church and the inside is gorgeous. It was funded by a Spanish silver baron (can one be a "silver baron?")and was built to rival the churches of Europe. It's full of praying old ladies, huge columns, LOTS of silver and creepy Jesus statues. Loved it.

Like an oasis on an alien planet
This is one of those places that may be on the well tread tourist path, but really is that popular for a reason. There's nowhere else in the world that you can experience something like this.
I was there in March, so it was right at freezing outside. It was such a cool experience to be in the geothermal water while it was so cold out.
They recommend putting conditioner in your hair before you even get in the water and I wish I would've done that. My hair was crispy crunchy from the minerals for days after.

Unlike anything you've seen before
This was by far the highlight of my trip to the Baltic countries. As someone who's always been fascinated by the USSR, you can't beat this Stalinist wonderland. A Lithuanian man started collecting Soviet relics after the fall of Communism and put them into this park of oddities so that people will never forget the trials and tribulations of the time.
It's so bizarre to wander through the woods and come across 20 foot high Lenins and Stalins while Soviet music pipes through speakers in the trees. This place is an awesome Capitol of Kitsch.
They also have a completely irrelevant and stinky zoo along with Soviet playground equipment.

Not much to see
Aside from some great cafes, there isn't too much to see in the city center. Its location of halfway between Riga and Vilnius makes it a convenient stop on the road.

Your photos are amazing - Vilnius looks beautiful, I really want to visit now!
I got your comment about Heimaey in Iceland. At the moment we can only add cities with an urban population of 15,000 or more people. For now, you could add it as a neighborhood of reykjavik i suppose...
I noticed that a photo you just uploaded isn't loading for some reason.. did you get an error message at all when uploading it? Was it slow? Just trying to figure out what went wrong.. Thanks!
nah, it just took me 3 tries to get an image size from photoshop that i liked once i reached the cropping page. :) should be up now.

Ok, so did you hit back and then try to re-crop? If you check out the spot page the photo is missing I think something got caught up. Would you mind re-uploading the photo and then deleting the other one? Sorry its a sucky solution but the only way to fix... http://www.wherescool.com/spots/r-alko-tallinn/

Not a day goes by that I don't think about travel and photography. I've been to 24 foreign countries so far and traveled extensively around the US. I lived in Russia for 4 months one time and just lived there for another month in March.
Payin' them bills...
