I love chocolate, but at a price.
Although this place can be left to those who can afford to pay $4 for two pieces of chocolate, if you're looking for a nice date locale or just to satisfy your sweet tooth, ACKC is a pretty good bet. Their shop-cum-cafe is warm and their staff is equally inviting. Their cakes and ice cream concoctions are also worth sharing. If you are a foodie, splurge on the artisan chocolates (in flavors like Lavender Vanilla and Absinthe).

I love junk!
Floor to ceiling junk fills this expansive shop near U Street. It's a crap lover's paradise, with dirty, dusty furniture, household goods and oddities for decent prices. Tour the inside area, venture outside into the literal junk yard, or risk the fetid smell of the bargain basement, where everything is 75% off. It's fun to explore and a cool place to pick up goods if you are on a budget, but only if you have time to weed through piles.

Biggest piece of Pizza I ever did see.
You should come here if:
1) You love pizza
2) You love large things
3) You wish a slice of pizza was more than just a slice of pizza
Controversy shrouds the origin of the jumbo slice pizza of Washington DC, but most locals will tell you Pizza Mart invented it. Even the most ravenous would be satisfied by a slice of pizza so big, it needs three plates to hold it and a knife and fork to finish it off. A frequent stop for late-night drinkers, Pizza Mart is not to be missed, if only to view a delightful culinary anomaly.

Great little cafe
Red Onion fits in perfectly with Burlington's laid-back community. The food is plentiful, hearty and fresh. The pastries and baked goods are delectable. The menu appears limited but is actually pretty versatile and there are always specials.
Recommended: their soup specials, with their Red Onion Spinach Melt. It packs a large punch, for a vegetarian sandwich.

Infused vodkas and Belgian beers are the way to go
Walk in and feel like you are in a a French underground wine cellar. The decor is unlike those of other Lawrence bars - it's dark, but classy. The outdoor seating areas (of the back and the front) are great for meeting new people over one of their signature cocktails. Definitely a hoppin' place.
Recommended: any of their infused vodkas. They change seasonally but are all delicious.

Jolly Good Time
Red Lyon Tavern is definitely for the preppy crowd of Lawrence. Chock full of British sports memorabilia, always playing the latest match of football or cricket, come here if you are into drinking European-style. The free popcorn is also delicious and freshly popped. Play some darts or socialize with whoever happens to be there that night.

Makes you feel good and bad at the same time.
The bartendress was smoking a cigarette and drinking a Budlight while at work - I was definitely in Kansas.
I wondered exactly how the locals felt about Replay, being that it was pretty empty on a Saturday night, sparsely populated only by a few odd characters. The al fresco bar area is pretty cool, with a stage hosting local music acts. The inside is also akin to an early grunge pit, covered in graffiti (especially the bathroom). Cheap drinks, possibly good times, worth checking out at least.

Good shop for vintage clothing and accessories
I love vintage shopping, but often hate the prices attached to vintage clothing that is often not high quality. Wild Man does not discriminate - you will rarely find something here that is more than $30, and often, they have sales. Their selection is clean, trendy and fun. I would definitely recommend a shopping spree for the retro-inclined.

My mouth waters just thinking of it.
Zen Zero is one of the many Pan-Asian eateries on Mass. St, and definitely one of the best. Portions are huge but inexpensive, and their menu is expansive enough to accommodate anyone. They will even offer substitutes for undesirable ingredients (I was offered broccoli in lieu of red peppers). Their specialty cocktails are also worth trying and are akin to those found in the countries represented.
Recommended: The Thai Coconut Curry, chock full of red peppers, bamboo shoots, basil, garlic and your choice of meats, simmered in a red coconut curry sauce and served with rice. Pair it with a Green Tea Gin and Tonic, and you're set for the evening.

Definitely hit this place up
Massachusetts Street does not have the same touristy feel that other main shopping and dining streets do. It is very laid-back, very hip and very charming. Most of the buildings are housed within 50s era modern architecture (the names of original department stores are still visible), giving it a time-traveled feel. There is definitely something for everyone on this strip.

RAWR!
This is a good place to take pictures, both outside and inside. Outside, you'll find a T-Rex welcoming you to the station. Yeah, he's pretty silly. Inside, you'll find one of the best preserved historic train stations America has to offer, outside of Grand Central. The neoclassical, vaulted ceilings are something to admire, and it's free to enter the station area.
There is also a museum with interesting exhibitions, including a more in-depth look at T-Rex's friends. Something fun to see while in the area, for sure.

Así Así
The decor is nothing special - a few rustic looking chairs, two stuffed chickens on the counter - but it was rumored to be the best Mexican food in KC. I have to say, I've had a lot of Mexican and for the price you pay, it was just all right. The food seemed fresh enough, and was satisfying, but if I was looking for "authentic" Mexican, I would probably look elsewhere (aka a little more greasy). Still, not a bad option if you are in the Crown Center area.

Shopping is the main attraction
The Crown Center Shopping Center is the real highlight of this area. A huge shopping complex awaits you, with food and merch on every floor. Nice outdoor space as well, with fountains and shaded seating.

Eastern Europe meets Midwest America
Czar Bar has a dark, urban appeal, lit by blue spotlights and candles. There is a stage at the back that hosts live musicians, as well as alternative acts such as burlesque. They also have good bar specials ($4 glasses of wine Thursday nights) and appeal to the mid-to-late twenties crowd. Definitely a dark little corner to hit up with your romantic partner, or when the rest of the bars close for the night.

Wish I had gone on a Friday or Saturday
We went on an off-night, but it is clear by the alternative rocker decor that this place is the place to go for an "on-night." They have some great food and drink specials, albeit not gourmet but if you are traveling on the cheap, $5 pizzas and pitchers of PBR is worth the price. They also have live music just about every night, supporting KC's local music scene. Definitely stop by Friday and Saturday, or after 10pm.

Hoppin' area
Crossroads is a good place to go if you are in downtown KC and want to go out for cheap. Lots of bars packed into this area, as well as artsy galleries and companies. Really only lively on the weekends, however.

Pleasantly Surprised
I popped into this place on a whim, and have never forgotten it since. It doesn't look like much - the daily specials scrawled in chalk on the wall, a glass case holding some cold salads, a fridge hosting homemade drinks. The prices are so low, you think, "It can't be that good." Think again.
The food is fresh and amazing. And plentiful! Meals are piled high within styrofoam containers - you'll get about 3 meals out of one. Most come with salad and rice or vegetables. The owner is always there and even threw in free dessert for us.
Recommended: Their chicken Biryani, or any of their chaats. You won't be disappointed.

For all those PB fans (aka everyone)
Who DOESN'T like a good peanut butter sandwich? I don't know about you, but I can never seem to master the perfect PBJ - so I'll let someone else do the carving. PB&C is every juvenile-turned-foodie's dream come true.
Combinations include fried banana and honey, pickles, white chocolate, and even bacon. Sandwiches are made with the largest slices of bread known to mankind, so you WILL be full.
Recommended: The Heat is On. Grilled chicken, pineapple jam and peanut satay on whole wheat ($7.95).

Coolest ice rink in Europe.
If you're visiting in winter, make sure you hit up the ice rink for some serious skating action. European techno blasts as you make loops around the rink or watch the pros do tricks in the middle. Locals love coming out to play as well, this place is a hidden gem. Get in free with your Budapest card, or pay a small fee for skate rental (about $6). Very cool experience indeed.

Swim inside and out, all year round.
I cannot say enough about this place. It is truly bad ass in so many ways. It's cheap, fun, theraputic and an awesome way to spend an afternoon. The hot springs and sulfur baths are good for your skin and relaxing to sit in amongst the old locals who use these baths daily. There are saunas free to use and several services are offered such as massages (2000-3800 HUF) that are awesome AND inexpensive.
The outdoor pools are also seriously cool to play in. There are lap pools and even a whirl pool, and springs that bubble up and massage you. They are open all year round and get crowded in the summer but in the winter it's way cool to take a dip in the warm water surrounded by snow and ice. You could spend a full day here but if you are on a time limit, save your receipt and you'll get some money back if you leave within two hours.

Lovely area.
Great place to begin a tour of Budapest. There is so much to do here, you could spend a full day sightseeing here. Most of the area is City Park, which is so much more than a park because it is dotted with museums, bath houses and other cool things to do as you walk through it. Fantastic area to pack a lunch and get to see a bunch of sights right around the corner.

Gooooood chicken
Awesome wings and chicken dishes, they have so much here, everyone can find something to eat. Local bands, trivia nights and drink specials accompany the atmosphere too. Gets crowded on weekends, there is also a takeout portion if you just want food to go.
RECOMMENDED: Teriyaki chicken salad, fried. There is just something about the way they make it that tastes different from everything else.

The dive bar of dive bars.
One of the cheapest bars in Charleston, popular with the underage and thespian crowds. Sometimes have under 21 nights, but kids flock to this joint for the cheap drinks and mayhem that ensues afterwards. Literally down an alley so don't pass it by on accident. Lots of college kids and teachers, to be warned.

Where the Hipsters hang
This place rolls wicked every night, with cheap drink specials and cool contests to keep the intellectual college crowd happy. You WILL get drunk here. Try your hand at Rapper's Karaoke, Stump the Bartender, Trivia or Guitar Hero nights. The bar is located above Pita Pit so be careful not to pass it by.

English Lit and French... I used to love it but I guess everything sort of becomes a drag after a while, haha. That's so specific, do you have to specialise or do you just need a huge knowledge of everything? lol. I guess it means you have a sort of career lined up though, whereas i'm going to be a penniless writer in a very dull, unromantic way...
Hey, you can do a lot with English and French lit! Plus it's a cool conversation starter. I wouldn't say I have a career lined up, but I'll be specializing in fashion and textiles, so we'll see . Are you headed to the USA anytime soon?

Actually, I am probably visiting a friend in NY in July, and possibly also going to Boston, the Carolinas, Florida and LA...so in short yes. But money dependant... and I can't believe you just added Arthur's Seat stuff, that is so crazy, I see it every day, I used to live at the bottom. I always find it so weird when people know Edinburgh...

Haha don't worry about it, I can definitely deal with not being top user! Plus I have exams at the minute so not so much time... so anyway what do you 'do' with your life?
