Alice in Wanderlust

I am embarrassed to admit that I found this shop in the airline magazine from Bangkok Airways on my way to Siem Reap for the weekend, but honestly, I’ve found some worthwhile spots in those airline periodicals so don’t knock ‘em. Wanderlust in German means a very strong or irresistible impulse to travel and lust is exactly the right sentiment for the goodies at this fun shop. Reminiscent of Paris and Lolita’s bedroom, the shop is so sweet and girlie you’ll get a cavity. The candy colored clothes, neon jellies for Asia’s rainy season, bright and bold bangles, and art work make you feel like you fell down the rabbit hole. While the clothing is not super cheap, they are of a better quality than what you may find elsewhere. The accessories are totally affordable, I snapped up some yellow beaded earrings and a heart blazoned headband since it was the only thing to keep my hair from eating my sweaty neck in the heat. It may come as no surprise that the New Yorker found the New Yorker’s store. Fed up with the hustle and bustle and that feeling that life was moving too fast, owner a former buyer for Abercrombie, vacationed in Siem Reap and loved its energy, so she stayed, so says her apprentice, a too cool chick from Paris. There is a little red couch area with Wifi if you want to put your feet up for a bit. She also sells “Lovecards”, i.e., postcards painted by Cambodian children. The proceeds go to assisting them to attend school and the stamps are free! Happy shopping.
