This place can seem strange at first. It's on Broadway, so you've already sort of got New York on the brain - then you walk in and suddenly you feel like you've been transported to Midtown Manhattan or Main Line, Phila. Seriously bizarre.
The Bagel is one of a very small few really authentic East Coast style diners in Chicago. They serve perfect bagels & lox, and a bunch of other standard diner faves (matzo ball soup, pastrami on rye, etc). The booths are weird pleather, the place feels cramped, I think the floor is B&W checked. It really is like traveling across the country when you squeeze through the revolving door. I mean, I can't stop telling you - it's weird. But good.
Try it.
