Shilin Night Market. [Neighborhood Unavailable].

I know I know, this is the most well known night market in Taipei as well as the largest, and that's not what this site is all about. But besides that, there's still plenty to do here that remains under the radar, and exotic local delicacies you wouldn't find in your neck of the woods. You can find just about anything in this market, divided into a food area and a goods area, although they tend to overlap. The weekends are a little too much for the claustrophobic as human traffic jams are unavoidable.
Open everyday from about 4-5 until 1am, the best time to come is right when it opens to beat the congestion. Great for cheap sneakers (try the multi-leveled Momentum store deep in the market) and bargained clothing, as well as different animal part sampling not for the squeamish.
