forever frosh »

i asked my hosts to take me to a place like the dance cave in toronto - a dive bar dance hall that plays poppy indie music and caters to the uni students (free entry with student id) as well as other free spirits.

i think something got lost in translation.

normally i like places to dance that are more bar-style and less like a club. and i guess lola's had a pretty good set-up.
but i feel like the clientele make up a huge part of the experience, and i was less than thrilled with fellow patrons.

i felt like i was at frosh week. i guess that's accurate because school is almost starting, so the amount of freshman jocks there was overwhelming. but i have a feeling that it's like this year round. and i didn't like the lineup treatment - the bar wasn't full, don't make us stand in line so you look cooler.

but hey, if 17 year old footballers/lacrosse players/hockey studs with fake ids are you thing, you'd love it here.

Mondays are cheap drinks, bouncers are dicks »

2.0 Stars

For Monday "College Night" you can get a beer or a highball for $3. Not bad. But good luck getting in in a timely manner, the bouncers love to flex the muscle of a NYC nightclub and don't seem to realize that they are a small bar in a residential area. The DJ is a tossup, usually less than stellar. Overall this place is less-than-mediocre but still attracts many for the cheap drinks.

Cheap drinks, cool people »

A relaxed neighborhood bar geared towards the younger crowd. Cheaper drinks and less pretension than some of the bars you'll find downtown. Worth checking out, especially during the summer.
