The colorful facade, which often inspires comparisons to a man-made coral reef, is just one example of how Gaudi utilized unexpected shapes and colors to rethink the way human beings could enhance their living environment. Though the interior is somewhat less flamboyant, his creativity shines through in his unique manipulations of common construction materials. If you love a good view from high up, the rooftop is perfect for taking in Barcelona's wide boulevards and beautiful weather.

One of the 'must-see' Gaudi sights in Barcelona, La Pedrera, despite its entrance fee (though this is much less as a student), does not disappoint. The beautiful colours and contours of this visionary building all work to create a stunning piece of architecture that is cohesively beautiful but also practical - as the building's museum explains. The undulating rooftop with its crazy chimney pots offers fantastic panoramas over the city too. But at the end of the day, it's all about the building - it may look crazy, but it's a work of sheer genius, and there's a lot of detail to absorb.
