Dalston's not going to win any prizes in the beauty stakes, but if you can look past the superficial and you might discover an area with a lot to fall in love with. For the time being at least, Dalston still feels like the old east end, with grimey pound stores, a massive, raucous market and old cafés that have been there since the dawn of time. But alongside this, a seemingly endless stream of ultra-hip bars and clubs are opening in the basements along and off the Kingsland Road where the coolest and most in the know Londoners sip relatively inexpensive drinks whilst modelling the most out-there outfits around. There's a great music scene too, and affordable rents make it a top spot for artists who've been pushed out of Shoreditch studios to make space for bankers' crash pads.
